For a break in the holiday trek back from NC I spent a few days at Dad's house in Pine Plains, NY. Ryan slept while I drove non-stop from Durham to PP. The only stops made were for filling up the tank or emptying ours, and just once for food. We had the back seat of the 'Stang stocked with peanut butter crackers and jelly belly beans.
Dad had small plans for the weekend:
1) Insulate the basement
2) fix one of those porcelain things you screw lights into in the basement
The insulation project was easy as pie. The porcelain thingy, not so much. Once he removed the troublemaking porcelain, the wires that were once attached to it crumbled in his hand, making the project much bigger than he had planned. Dad needed some guidance. After reading "Wiring Made Simple" Dad was a true electrician- the real deal. Down he went to the basement. Six hours later he danced up those stairs like a king. He had conquered the wires!
A small amount of time had passed and Kathy came home. Ryan opted to show Kathy Dad's hard work since Dad was already on the couch sleeping with beer in hand. Down they went, flipped the switch....FIREWORKS! SPARKS! SMOKE! eeeeeek.
Dad just couldn't understand it. His hard work. His soul went into fixing this. Impossible.
Determined to fix it, or determined not to let Kathy hire some handsome young electrician to do what he couldn't... Dad hit the books. Troubleshooting pg. 56.
Rumor has it, everything is fixed.
Amen.
