Sir Fixalot

For a break in the holiday trek back from NC I spent a few days at Dad's house in Pine Plains, NY. Ryan slept while I drove non-stop from Durham to PP. The only stops made were for filling up the tank or emptying ours, and just once for food. We had the back seat of the 'Stang stocked with peanut butter crackers and jelly belly beans.

Dad had small plans for the weekend:
1) Insulate the basement
2) fix one of those porcelain things you screw lights into in the basement

The insulation project was easy as pie. The porcelain thingy, not so much. Once he removed the troublemaking porcelain, the wires that were once attached to it crumbled in his hand, making the project much bigger than he had planned. Dad needed some guidance. After reading "Wiring Made Simple" Dad was a true electrician- the real deal. Down he went to the basement. Six hours later he danced up those stairs like a king. He had conquered the wires!

A small amount of time had passed and Kathy came home. Ryan opted to show Kathy Dad's hard work since Dad was already on the couch sleeping with beer in hand. Down they went, flipped the switch....FIREWORKS! SPARKS! SMOKE! eeeeeek.

Dad just couldn't understand it. His hard work. His soul went into fixing this. Impossible.

Determined to fix it, or determined not to let Kathy hire some handsome young electrician to do what he couldn't... Dad hit the books. Troubleshooting pg. 56.

Rumor has it, everything is fixed.

Amen.

Yo Gabba Gabba...

Unfortunately, I think I am the last to hear about Yo Gabba Gabba on Nickelodeon. It's a riot, you need to check it out.

Not a creature was stirring...

As you can see, the O'Connell-Edwards household in Durham was bustling with energy and activity this Christmas morning. The stockings were opened before breakfast- that's the tradition. We usually get to open one gift on Christmas Eve, but this year we were at midnight mass listening to Eric sing and ring bells.
There was a fair amount of discussion over the inappropriate outfits that many of the younger church-goers donned. Among the don'ts were strapless tube dresses, silver heels (yes- I do own gold, but would never traipse out to church in those babies).... tattoo revealing halter tops (Cara raised a good point "If the tattoo is of the cross, does that make it okay in church?")... leopard prints galore... I could go on, but I'm not Steven Cojocaru, nor was I at church to pretend I was.
Merry Christmas everyone.

D to the E to the LICIOUS...

Last night I went to dinner with Tocco in the North End. We met up with many of her friends from the U Mass FH team (alum). I actually think they all played, Pam was there- who is a softball queen... so I can not clump her with the FH girls.
Dinner was fantastic, the wine was too. Any of my close friends know the issues I'm having these days with holding things down, I'm happy to say- "I held it down". The conversations drifted between gossip and gossip. Beth was visiting from the west coast. A former roommate, she went out to do new things and is back for the holidaze.
Dinner came to an end, after being showered with complimentary desserts from the chef... which we tried to resist- but who can? Tocco and her crowd went off to a DDR party (for those of you who don't know, that's Dance Dance Revolution) and I went off to my frosty car parked all the way on level 8 in the Clarendon garage. I hate going to get my car late at night in those garages alone. I could easily fall victim to a vicious attack in which my achilles tendon is sliced by a criminal hiding under my car, leaving me immobile on the ground as he drives away in my spankin' new corolla....rockin' the latest tunes of DANZ PARTY 2007.  Thanks for the CD Dano, it's fantastic.
